Indiana University just announced the musical artist lineup at the inaugural Granfalloon event. The first annual Granfalloon: A Kurt Vonnegut Convergence will be held May 10-12 at the university’s main campus in Bloomington, Indiana. The conference is hosted by the school’s Arts and Humanities Council and will celebrate the life of Kurt Vonnegut through a variety of lectures, exhibits, and musical performances. The headliner act is indie artist Father John Misty. The Grammy winner and self-described Vonnegut fan will kick off the musical portion of the festival on Friday at the Upland Brewing Co.
The festival boasts a myriad of upcoming performers including Damien Jurado, Rodeolo, Shabaaz Palaces, Thee Oh Sees, Amy O, Waxahatchee, Baths, and Noname. In addition to eclectic performances, the conference will showcase a staged reading of Kurt Vonnegut’s musical “God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater” at the Cardinal Stage. To celebrate the spirit of Vonnegut, the conference and festival will blend a myriad of demonstrations, exhibits, and musical performance across all genres and cultures. The term “Granfalloon,” originated from Vonnegut’s famous novel “Cat’s Cradle,” and signifies a group of people brought together for an arbitrary yet powerful reason for a shared purpose. In addition to the artistic expressions, a lineup of academic panels and lectures will be hosted at Lilly Library and Bloomington’s City Hall.
Weekend passes are now on sale for $90 and include access to all concerts as well as the staged reading. The Friday performance passes are on sale for $45, while the Saturday club pass will set you back $60. The staged reading ticket is $10. Individual show tickets will go on sale April 6, pending availability after club passes are distributed.
